CAPSTONE AT COVINGTON PLACE GROUNDBREAKING

On March 12, 2026, community leaders, public officials, and development partners gathered in St. Tammany Parish to celebrate the groundbreaking of Capstone at Covington Place, a new workforce housing community designed to serve the growing housing needs of the Covington region. Developed by The Banyan Foundation, the development will provide high-quality, resilient housing for working families and individuals employed throughout the parish’s expanding service and commercial sectors. Capstone at Covington Place was made possible through a collaborative partnership with the Louisiana Housing Corporation and funding from the State of Louisiana through Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) resources, helping close a critical financing gap and support long-term housing stability in the region.

The community will be constructed using FORTIFIED Gold building standards and Enterprise Green Communities sustainability practices, ensuring enhanced disaster resilience, energy efficiency, and long-term durability for residents. Located in an area with strong access to surrounding businesses, services, and employment centers, the development is intended to provide stable housing opportunities while supporting the continued economic growth of St. Tammany Parish. The groundbreaking marks an important milestone in expanding access to safe, sustainable workforce housing for the Covington community.

CAPSTONE AT THE OAKS GRAND OPENING

On February 24, community leaders, partners, and residents gathered in Lake Charles, Louisiana to celebrate the grand opening of Capstone at the Oaks, a new affordable housing community designed for seniors ages 62 and older.
Developed by The Banyan Foundation, Inc., Capstone at the Oaks brings 120 high-quality, affordable apartment homes to the Lake Charles community, helping address the growing need for safe and accessible housing for elderly residents living on fixed incomes.
The development was thoughtfully designed with seniors in mind and features modern amenities including a community room, fitness center, supportive services space, and beautifully designed outdoor areas that encourage connection and wellness among residents.
Capstone at the Oaks represents a major investment in the long-term recovery and revitalization of Southwest Louisiana following Hurricanes Laura and Delta. Built with state-of-the-art hurricane-resistant materials and resilient construction techniques, the property is designed to provide safe, durable housing for decades to come.
The project was made possible through the collaboration of numerous public and private partners, whose support helped make this important development a reality for the Lake Charles community.
During the ceremony, speakers highlighted the importance of expanding affordable housing options for seniors and the positive impact developments like Capstone at the Oaks have on strengthening communities and improving quality of life.
The grand opening marked an important milestone for both the residents who will now call Capstone at the Oaks home and for the broader Lake Charles community as it continues to rebuild and grow.

CAPSTONE AT CEDAR STREET

The Banyan Foundation, Inc. is proud to celebrate the groundbreaking of Capstone at Cedar Street, a new affordable housing development located in DeRidder, Louisiana. This development represents a significant investment in the community and will provide high-quality, safe, and affordable housing for residents in Beauregard Parish.
Capstone at Cedar Street will consist of 40 thoughtfully designed residential units serving individuals and families earning at or below the applicable Area Median Income (AMI). The development is designed to address the growing need for attainable housing options in DeRidder while contributing to the long-term stability and growth of the community.
In addition to modern, energy-efficient apartment homes, Capstone at Cedar Street will incorporate features intended to enhance residents’ quality of life, including community gathering spaces and supportive services that promote housing stability and personal well-being. Through partnerships with local organizations, residents will have access to programming focused on financial literacy, health and wellness, and other resources designed to help individuals and families thrive.
This development is made possible through collaboration between The Banyan Foundation, Inc., local leadership, community partners, and state housing resources committed to expanding housing opportunities across Louisiana. Capstone at Cedar Street reflects a shared vision of strengthening communities by investing in housing that is both affordable and sustainable.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of construction and the start of a project that will provide long-term benefits to the City of DeRidder and the surrounding region. This development exemplifies a commitment to sustainability and disaster resilience, made possible through collaboration with key partners, including the Calcasieu Council on Aging and the Louisiana Housing Corporation. As construction advances toward its anticipated Summer 2025 completion, Capstone at The Oaks remains focused on creating a safe, supportive living environment enriched with essential services and amenities that enhance the well-being and quality of life for senior residents.
